The Buckley School |
Levien & Company managed the conversion and merger of two late 19th Century townhouses into an Arts and Sciences building for this Upper East Side, K-9, boys school. The scope of the project included complete interior and exterior renovation, saving only the front façade. The installation of a new structural framework within the existing envelope, and all new LEED compliant MEP systems. The building provides the school with seven new classrooms and one exterior teaching space. The project has achieved LEED Silver certification.
Additionally, Levien managed a challenging, three-phase renovation of the 55,000 SF existing school building, which was accomplished during school breaks. All new MEP systems were installed, including sprinklers and an upgraded emergency generator. Significant structural work was undertaken to reconfigure portions of the building. All classrooms were renovated, and the school’s theater was improved with a new retractable seating system, lighting and sound systems. In addition, all A/V and IT were upgraded throughout the building and the libraries were revitalized for the 21st century.
