Grace Institute |
Founded by W.R. Grace, former mayor of New York City and industrialist, the Grace Institute empowers underserved women in the New York City area to achieve employment and economic self-sufficiency by providing job-skills training and placement services. This project included the interior renovation and build-out of approximately 32,000 SF of new classroom and office space.
Though not originally awarded this assignment, Levien replaced the originally retained firm to oversee the project. Grace was selling its long-time home and purchased a new condominium interest in an older downtown building. Key issues were hours of operation and installation of air conditioning equipment on set-back roofs, durability - since the spaces are used nearly 16 hours a day and a very tight schedule that had to be met to allow incoming students a full nine months of classes. All these goals were met.
