Randall's Island Sports Field Development |
Levien & Co. was hired by the Randall's Island Sports Foundation (currently the Randall's Island Park Alliance) to manage the design and construction of 60 athletic fields to support a variety of sports including soccer, baseball, softball football, lacrosse, field hockey and rugby. Supporting amenities for the 300 acre park included construction of a new electric power substation, roadway construction, parking facilities, pedestrian pathways, lighting, landscaping and free standing comfort stations. Environmental upgrades included the establishment of a salt water marsh and freshwater wetland, both of which play crucial roles in a Park-wide storm water filtration system. Levien worked with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation and Natural Currents Energy to advance renewable energy initiatives at the park, including the creation of a hybrid energy model (combining solar, wind and tidal energy) to power the island's facilities, and with NYPA to promote the use of high storage batteries and fuel cells.
